Secret Beaches, close to your lodge

When most people think of Cornwall, they picture the golden sweep of Polzeath or the bustling surf of Newquay. But one of the best parts of staying, or owning a second home in Cornwall, at Stonerush Lakes is being just a short drive from some of the region’s most beautiful hidden gem beaches. These are the quiet coves locals keep to themselves, and that guests in our holiday lodges in Cornwall can discover time and again.

Whether you’re dreaming of crystal-clear water, a secluded picnic spot, or somewhere to dip your toes far from the crowds, here are five beaches close to Stonerush Lakes that feel like your own secret escape.

Lansallos Cove

📍 Around 15 minutes from Stonerush Lakes

Tucked between Polperro and Looe, Lansallos Cove is as peaceful as it comes. Reached via a half-mile walk through fields and woodland, this National Trust spot has no arcades or shops, just sand, sea, and space to breathe. Bring a book, dip into the clear shallows, and enjoy Cornwall at its most natural.

Lantic Bay

📍 Around 20 minutes from Stonerush Lakes

A true showstopper, Lantic Bay is often compared to the Mediterranean thanks to its crescent of white sand and turquoise water. It’s a steep walk down from the National Trust car park, but the reward is a quiet, unspoiled beach where the only soundtrack is the waves. Perfect for a picnic or a slow afternoon under the Cornish sun.

Talland Bay

📍 Around 25 minutes from Stonerush Lakes

Between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay is a tucked-away favourite with calm waters, a quirky café, and plenty of rock pools to explore. Families love it for its safe, sandy shoreline, while couples will find it’s a perfect midweek hideaway. Parking is limited, so arriving early makes the experience even more stress-free.

Readymoney Cove

📍 Around 30 minutes from Stonerush Lakes

On the edge of Fowey, Readymoney Cove is small but perfectly formed. Backed by cliffs and shaded by trees, it’s sheltered from the wind and ideal for a dip. A seasonal kiosk serves drinks and snacks, and Fowey’s cafés and boutiques are just a short stroll away, making it easy to turn a beach trip into a day out.

Hannafore Beach

📍 Around 20 minutes from Stonerush Lakes

East Looe beach may be the well-known choice, but Hannafore on the quieter west side is the one you’ll want to keep to yourself. With panoramic views of Looe Island, excellent rock pooling, and easy parking, it’s the perfect blend of simple and spectacular. A great option for families or anyone who wants to explore at their own pace.

Why Go Off the Beaten Track?

Cornwall’s magic isn’t only in its dramatic headlands or famous surf beaches. It’s in those quiet corners where you can spread out a towel and feel as though you’ve discovered something for yourself.

That’s one of the joys of staying in a holiday lodge in Cornwall at Stonerush Lakes. Our lodges in Cornwall are set in peaceful countryside, yet close enough to the coast that these hidden beaches become part of everyday life. For owners, it’s the luxury of returning to these places again and again, your very own secret Cornwall, right on your doorstep.

If you are looking for Cornwall's best quiet beaches to finish off your latest book or are keen to uncover Cornwall's secret bays where you can watch crabs scuttle across empty sands, book a holiday or find a holiday home at Stonerush Lakes or Southern Halt. We are just moments away from coastal calm.
