Starting the year positively

It’s another new year and we can start to think about how this year can be better than the last.

Safe to say with all the changes, restrictions, and sickness we have endured over the past 12 months, surely this next year must be better?  The past 21 months has reminded us that we don’t know what is around the corner from one day to the next. However, this shouldn’t let us lose sight of some ‘normality’ and it makes it even more important to focus on life positively for the sanity of our minds!

So, let’s set the year off positively and look forward to a hopefull 2022.

1. Have a Spring clean

A good declutter, deep clean, and refresh will make you feel more in control and ready to take on what’s ahead.

Clear out the files of papers from the work office to give yourself an organised clear environment to work in.
Sort out the sock drawer – why do you keep so many odd socks?  If you haven’t found them over the past 12 months, it’s unlikely you’re going to in the next!
Empty the cupboards and check the date on those tins and packets at the back!
Take a look at the wardrobe of clothes and donate those you haven’t worn in the past 3 years to charity – do they even still fit?  Are you EVER going to wear them again?

Or simply just have a good ‘DEEP CLEAN’ around the house! You’ll be left feeling rejuvenated!

2. Set goals for the year

What do you wish you could have done last year?  What did you miss out on?  A huge number of people set goals for the year that are so big that they fail in the first 2 weeks, so it’s important that whatever your goal, make sure it’s realistic!

Many of us go straight to the exercise regime when it comes to goals, but it doesn’t have to be that.  It could be ‘to ensure you finish work one day a week at least by 4 pm to spend time with your children or ‘to have a vegan meal once a week’ or even to ‘cut down on the alcohol consumption and use the money saved towards a luxury weekend break away’? Charteroak offer wonderful luxury breaks throughout the year!

You can make a big challenge more realistic to succeed by breaking it down into smaller stages – setting the main challenge as your long-term goal and working back setting medium and short term stages to get there.

3. Take up a new hobby

Time goes by so fast, and before you know it another year has gone. When you look back what have you achieved? Taking time out to focus on yourself and things you love to do is a great exercise for the mind.

Whether that be running, learning crochet, painting, fishing, there are an abundance of hobbies to choose from and so much online to assist in supporting you to get started! Set time aside just for YOU!

4. Exercise daily

Whatever your level of fitness, exercise is a great boost for the mind, and it doesn’t have to be running 5k, or swimming 30 lengths.  A simple daily walk getting you out into the fresh air will do wonders.

There are beautiful walks all around us, even just around the local park.  Cornwall certainly has an abundance of beautiful walks.  If you come to stay with us visit https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lists/walks-in-cornwall

5. Eat well

We all know the importance of a healthy diet. A healthy diet will assist in a healthy body and mind, providing a greater source of energy to get stuff done during the day, which in turn gives a sense of achievement and positivity during our day!

Don’t seek to cut certain sources of food out completely, too much of any one thing isn’t great, remember ‘balance’.  For assistance in what a balanced diet looks like, visit https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/the-eatwell-guide/

Our Stonerush Lakes Restaurant The Old Mill, offers a range of tasty meals, though each balanced with goodness, freshness and locally sourced as our chef Jonathon knows the importance of a balanced meal.

6. Travel

Book a breakaway!  Giving yourself a new environment to explore, to relax, to re-set provides so much benefit to your wellbeing.

It starts as soon as you book the break, giving yourself something to look forward to. Although the past 21 months have meant dates have had to change due to necessary restrictions, don’t let the past put you off the future.

Booking a break at most establishments including ours here at Charteroak can be made in confidence.  If anything does change due to Covid restrictions, we offer a refund or change of date (terms and conditions apply) which means surely, it’s best to give yourself the opportunity of getting in first with the dates you require and start your countdown sooner rather than later!

7. Spend time with loved ones

It wasn’t long ago we were either forced to share four walls with our families or we were too far apart to be able to visit them due to restrictions.  But as those restrictions diminish don’t let it be a slippery slope to spending quality time with them and allowing work commitments to take over.

Make it one of the promises to yourself.  It could be a family game or film night once a week/fortnight, a trip out once a month to a local attraction, a weekly walk with the family and the dog.  Or a weekend break away to explore a new area.  Cornwall has so much beauty to explore for all ages and we can provide the best in accommodation!

There is a lot to assist us in getting away from it all and we certainly understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the impact it can have on our minds and bodies.  How we feel in our minds in turn affects the relationships we hold with our loved ones, extended family, friends and work colleagues.

Our lodges have been designed with such in mind, our ‘Hygge Collection’ pronounced "hoo-ga," have been designed on the Danish culture (Hygge) and encompasses the feeling of cosy contentment and wellbeing through comfort, happiness and relaxation. Our selection of Hygge inspired designs and features, such as a private gym, spa room, cinema room and rooftop garden are features we are proud of.

Part of our strapline is ‘space to escape’ and it isn’t just used to market our lodges but to highlight the importance that we all need just that… ‘a space to escape’.

Everyone’s reason for escape is different, it could be work, day to day life stresses, just your own four walls, or the lack of time spent with your loved ones!  However the new year has begun, we hope you have started positively.  If it hasn’t, you can turn it around by using the tips above at any point in the year.

Don’t lose hope or sight of your goals! Here’s to 2022 and all that it brings (hopefully many breaks away!)
